me than I was!
As more and more people heard
of the fact that I now had a black
powder ri昀氀e the richer I became. Men that had shot in my
Quigley group for years became
the biggest support with supplying me everything I needed.
Steve Anderson, Brian Ha昀昀ey,
and Ed Himmelhoch all live out
of state from me, yet they made
a point to share things like
brass, prone sticks, sleeves, and
cleaning solvent recipes along
with years of gun and shooting
knowledge. Ed’s late wife Beth
was always one of my favorites.
She was my biggest cheerleader,
made the best sweet treats and
always treated me like family
from the time she 昀椀rst met me
through watching me shoot
my 昀椀rst two Quigley matches.
Spencer helped me to learn theprocess of loading for my ri昀氀e
and teaching me how to shoot
that beast. He dealt with all my
silly questions and happy accidents, plus he provided me the
opportunity to purchase my 昀椀rst
1,000 bullets. I am now learning
to cast my own but that’s a different story. The Brunner family
has adopted me into their group
and helped me understand
the more complicated parts of
shooting long range with open
sights. How to account for wind
and elevation, di昀昀erences in
powder and the importance of
compression. My papaw made
the shooting sticks I always use
now. I had no idea there were
so many moving parts to consider, so much math! And so
many people who would help
me learn along the way. I listened intently to every shared
pearl of wisdom, tried my best
to answer questions asked of
me and prepared excitedly to
participate in my 昀椀rst shoot.
My 昀椀rst shooting event was
the Quigley Match in 2023,
nearly a year and a half after
I purchased my Sharps. My
next one was Quigley 2024. In
2025 I had my most accomplished year yet. I shot the
Quigley Match in June and
placed third in the Women’s
Division with thirty-four hits
out of forty-eight (my high-
est. 1976
