Today was 600 yards. The temperature peaked around 93°. The conditions have been generally pretty
mild, but we did have wind up to
about 15 miles an hour. We had a
few reversals and the mirage was
pretty thick as well. We’re drinking
a lot of water. The fishing shirts I’m
wearing seem to be working very
well. You can just put the hood up
and it’s almost like being under an
umbrella.
We made the decision that Jimbo
would start spotting for Curtis
Stables as well as myself. This would
free up Steve Farringer to have
more time to enter score sheets on
the computer. I don’t mind pulling
targets by myself as the work isn’t
that hard. I’m one of these weirdos
who enjoys pulling targets as much
as I do shooting. It would also give
Jimbo more time to observe the
conditions which we viewed as an
asset to ourselves.
All that being said, neither one
of us has shot exceptionally well
at 500 or 600 yards. And 600 in
particular, it seems like we’re over
correcting. On the surface, the
conditions seemed to warrant sight
changes of two or three minutes,
but in reality it seems like a minute
and a half will get you where you
need to go. We’re going to keep this
in mind going forward. Tomorrow
is 800 yards. I’m switching up my
ammunition and going with the big
600 grain elliptical which I’ve been
shooting for a couple of years in
this rifle now.

God bless Black Powder!
Pulling targets for Gullo and Venhouse starts to get
monotonous after a while...
John Venhouse was hell on the spotter disc. He hit it no less than
4 times including one direct hit on the pin. These were the second
and third hits of the day.
