Today we shot 900 yards in very
di昀케cult conditions. The wind
increased throughout the day
and the heavy mirage switched
back and forth with no letup.
My struggles continued and I
posted my lowest scores yet. I
took four misses in my second
relay. It was little consolation
that many other (very accomplished) shooters also posted
strings featuring multiple misses.
Tomorrow we start the 1,000
yard line. I will be shooting
the last of my 600 grain grease
groove bullets before switching
over to my 590 grain DDPP bullet on Monday.
After the day was over, we had
a houseguest. Curtis Stables
came over for BBQ and we had
a great time. Dinner was cowboy ribeyes and baked potatoes.
One of the great things about an
Airbnb is having laundry facilities. All three of us got all our
clothes run through and then we
each hit our fart sacks.
Tomorrow is another big day!

Retired (USA) MSgt Curtis Stables is indespinsable to the
Desert International. He shows up early and stays late,
building and repairing target frames, pasting target centers,
riding herd on target pullers in the pits, and being the o昀케cial
photograper. He’s earned every good thing that comes his
way.
At right:
Talk about a tough day of
shooting! The scoresheets tell
the tale of hard winds and lots
of reversals. Combine that
with the four second 昀氀ight time
of your average BPCR bullet at
1,000 yards, and this becomes
more understandable.
God bless Black Powder!
