We are waking up today to 30+
mile an hour wind. The wind is
supposed to drop throughout the
day but it’s only gonna drop down
to about 15 or so. The skies are
clear and we should have a high
temperature somewhere around
90°F. Humidity is expected to be
below 20%. The match is currently
delayed while we wait for the winds
to drop.
Fouling control is becoming absolutely crucial. I have gone to wiping
with four patches. The first two are
MPro7 patches and the second two
patches are moose milk. All of the
patches are wet, not merely damp.
So far, this regimen has worked
very well. It should be noted that
the guys who are currently leading
the standings are using bore wipers
from Buffalo Arms. We won’t name
those individuals, let’s just say that
they are the usual suspects…
When the day ended, I had shot
two 10 shot strings for score. I had
eight missed shots in each string. A
total of four hits out of 20 shots. My
total score for the day (I believe)
was 30 points out of 200 possible.
This is easily the worst day shooting
I’ve had in my memory. I don’t ever
remember when I struggled so badly to hit the target. I feel like there
must be some reason. Some issue
with my mechanics, some defect
in my rifle, some other unknown
issue, causing this.
Even though this is extremely
distressing, I have to fight hard to
keep my head in the game. I have to
work very hard to show up tomorrow and make sure that I’m paying
attention and looking for things
and applying the knowledge that I
know that I have. When things go
badly for you, it’s really easy to let
your head go into the tank. That
will only make things worse. This
entire trip (for me) has been an object lesson in how things can always
get worse. The key is to recover.

Editor’s note: I would go on to
discover that this score was the
result of a colossal brain fart....
