Today was the Iron Man match.
I’m shooting my paper patch bullet
again. The same load that delivered
at 10 foot wide dot pattern yesterday. Morning when I lined up to
prep my rifle for my first round, I
ran a couple of moose milk patches
down the more and then I remembered to run my dry patch. All of a
sudden it dawned on me. Yesterday
I’d been shooting paper patch bullets down a wet bore. Basically, this
means that every patch would slip
off the bullet before it made it out
the bore, and I would end up with
essentially a smooth bore rifle. No
wonder my shooting was so horrific
yesterday!
As the day progressed, and I used
the correct wiping routine, I fired
respectable scores. I was very happy
with this. I’m not insane after all! I
have a good load that shoots well.
I need to perfect my technique and
get plenty of practice before my next
match which will be the Quigley.
The 22 rifle is gonna get a lot of
work between now and then, especially in offhand shooting!
Going to these matches is the best
and most efficient way to improve
your shooting. Even when you get
terrible results, there’s still learning
to be done and you can still improve. Don’t quit. Never give up!
See you boys on the firing line!
