It’s Time to
Allow Shooting
From a Bench...
by Jimbo Terry
About 20 years ago I had
major back surgery. It
went well and I was able to
shoot prone with out any
pain. But after 9 years the
pain was back and I was
back in pain when I was
shooting. It got so bad that
I couldn’t shoot from the
prone position. I still went
to matches and spotted.
I love the sport of BPCR
shooting and I wanted to
keep shooting so I built
my 昀椀rst shooting bench. It
was big and heavy had to
put wheels on it to move
it around. I asked Robert Garibay (who was the
match director for National Creedmoor Match in
54
Byers, CO) if
I could shoot
from my
bench? He
said bring it
and my score
would count.
He knew
my scores
from past
matches. I
shot all three
days my
score were
the same as
when I shot from a mat.
He asked all the shooters
there to look at my bench
and ask them if it was
advantage and to vote on
it. All the shooters said it
was not an advantage and
to allow it but do not make
it a class. I was very happy
about it.
The Desert International Match in Phoenix, AZ
allows shooters to shoot
from a bench and back
in Georgia you can shoot
from a bench in 22 silhouette. We are all getting
older, that’s a fact, but we
all love to shoot and be
part of this great sport. So
let’s keep all the shooters
we have shooting is what I
