The Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain (MLAGB –
www.mlagb.com) has for many
years held an annual series of
mid and long range ri昀氀e matches. There are competitions for
the .577 En昀椀eld ri昀氀e at 200,
300, 500 and 600 yards, and for
percussion target ri昀氀es at 200,
300, 500, 600, 900 and 1,000
yards. The latter will generally
see .45 calibre military target
ri昀氀es and full match ri昀氀es on the
range. Original and reproduction ri昀氀es compete in the same
classes.
All events at 200-600 yards,
with one exception, are 昀椀red
prone with a two point sling
permitted for support. At 900
and 1,000 yards the sling and/
or a wrist rest can be used for
support. For shooters who have

trouble shooting prone, the
option to 昀椀re while sitting at a
table is available, and support is
as per prone shooters (i.e. this
is not bench rest shooting). The
exception referred to is a 200
yard o昀昀hand match with the
En昀椀eld ri昀氀e.
