This competition is a rare opportunity to compete with the
military target ri昀氀e in its original form.
Shooters enjoyed generally good
weather with just a gentle/moderate wind. Rob Groot made the
most of the conditions and had
a convincing win. A 600 yard
practice session was held in the
afternoon, and again on Sunday
morning.

The generally 昀椀ne conditions,
albeit with a fresh wind at times,
continued over the weekend.
Saturday 9 May was the MLAGB
300 yard Ri昀氀e Championships,
and Sunday 10 May (pm) the
1,000 yard Ri昀氀e Championships. Course of 昀椀re in the 300
yard matches is 10 shots, while
at 1,000 yards, 15 shots are
昀椀red. David Minshall continued
his good run with a win at 300
yards for percussion target ri昀氀e,
and Taco van der Vlist won the
En昀椀eld ri昀氀e match at the same
distance. John Whittaker, one
of the most consistent long
range British shooters, won the
1,000 yard match.

While the author was unable
to attend the June competitions (12-14 June), results were
received just as this brief report
was being 昀椀nalised.
The LRR Barry Custance-Baker Cup (15 shots at 900 yards)
match was held on the morning
of Friday 12 June. Blustery conditions made for some testing
shooting with .45 cal percussion
muzzle loading target ri昀氀es.

After the LRR Branch competition, members enjoyed a 500
yard practice session in the afternoon. Saturday, 13 June, was
MLAGB 600 yard Ri昀氀e Championship. While the 200, 300
and 500 yard MLAGB matches
are 10 shots each, those at 600
yards are 15 shots.

The shooting for the weekend
concluded with the LRR Asquith
Cup for any .577 military percussion ri昀氀e. The usual course
of 昀椀re is 15 shots at 600 yards
and 15 shots at 800 yards. This
year, however, the booking for
800 yards could not be secured,
so the LRR Committee decided
to shoot it entirely at 600 yards.
Each shooter 昀椀red 15 shots in
the morning and 15 shots in the
afternoon.
The day stayed warm, dry and
sunny, but scores were lower
than expected due to the very
variable wind. There were few
moments during the day when
the range 昀氀ags were pointing in
the same direction and on many
occasions they were 昀氀ying in
opposite directions.
Results only show the top three
places. Full results can be found
via the MLAGB and LRR websites.
With the Bisley ranges fully occupied through July with NRA
competitions, the next MLAGB/
LRR shoots are not until the
end of August. This will be a
weekend of long range shooting
at 900 and 1,000 yards. The
season concludes in October
with the LRR Rigby Cup and
Whitworth Cup matches.
