We packed up and retired to the club
house. We did a few chores and hashed
out some Nationals business over the
usual array of snacks, cheese & biscuits.
Eventually it cooled down enough to warrant lighting the fire and closing the
“door”.
Most didn’t stay up late as we were all
tired after a day in the sun. Hopefully
there will be no frost in the morning.
Sunday started with coffee, bacon & eggs
in all variations. In general discussion
everyone agreed that calendar age and
joint age were in fact two different things.
06:35 Sunday from 600
We headed back to the 900 yard for
Detail 2. The sun was still a bit low so
we set up and waited. At 8am Mark G
decided he would make a start and sent
one down range, declaring the light was
ok. We started but in hindsight perhaps
another 15 minutes or so would have
made the difference to the target as it
was still a bit dark for a while. Anyway
we powered on as we still had 1000 yard
to shoot as well.
900 at 07:45
God Bless Black Powder!
Conditions were warm and sunny, bit of
a breeze and mirage mostly left to right,
mostly! Again sighters were cut as
settings were tweaked. Ken H had a
group high left that was frustrating.
Keith was quietly hitting Vs while Mark
G’s loads weren’t playing and he was
wondering if he had a broken firing pin,
turns out they were tumbling so he stood
down. Jim, Brad and Dan were following
Keith’s lead and scores were adding up.
By 9:45 were were finished and moved to
the 1000 yard.
Jim had his chronograph out and the
velocities were interesting. Thanks Jim.
Due to time we cut the 1000 back to 3
convertible sighters and 10 for score.
Detail 1 to the line. It is only 100 yards
further.
By now it was warm and the mirage was
hard, fast, distinct and turning the
aiming mark into a spinning saw blade.
Scores were a bit harder to get, Shayne
was getting on, Mark B hit a V, Peter was
dialing in with two Vs and Sharon had
run out of her “good” loads before getting
a setting and couldn’t get the lesser loads
far enough up the range. Oh well.
Local gunshop owner Richo was eagerly
observing and absorbing information and
is going to come and have some trigger
time next month. Welcome Richo.
Detail 2 to the line. Brad started strong
with enough numbers to keep all his
sighters which included a V, he was the
only shooter not to have a miss. Ken H
was having a better run with some moral
support from Mark G. Keith was keeping
it dialed in with two Vs to pip Brad by a
dot, and Dan kept going with the
muzzleloader to top the distance with
33.1. Cease fire.
Back to the club house to pack up and
the crew had the targets down and away
in no time, thanks team. We had our
usual relax and debrief over a sandwich
as scores were tallied.
